“Kylie hates pet names or nicknames,” Jason told the couple.
“So you just call her Kylie?” Neal asked, genuinely surprised at the confession.
In response, the couple surprisingly shared that Jason can only use one nickname in place of his wife’s real name: Joe.
“I call her Joe,” the professional athlete said, further explaining the backstory of the nickname’s origins. ‘Cause when she played hockey, she reminded me of the way she crouched down, like a baby kangaroo. That’s why I named her Joey; I narrowed it down to Joe. That’s my only nickname.’
One presenter commented on the “loophole”, while Neal asked Kylie: “And are you okay with that?”
“Yes, that one is fine,” she confirmed, to which the host replied, “But has he tried any others? Darling? Snookums?’
“Oh dear, he can’t say that,” she exclaimed, her eyes widening.
Among the other common names that Kylie bans and that couples may find generally endearing are babe, baby, hun, and honey.
“You can only be called that by, say, a waitress at a restaurant in South Philly,” she explained of her hometown, adding that the pet names can otherwise take on a somewhat negative, “sharp” connotation. “It just feels aggressive.”
But of course, fans who keep up with the family’s updates – or just the New heights sports podcast – know that she is also lovingly dubbed and mentioned Princess Kyana (a play about the late Princess Diana‘s nickname) by the former Philadelphia Eagles center and his co-host brother, Travis Kelce.
